Latricia Powell

Latricia Powell is a survivor and advocate whose life experiences have shaped her passion for giving foster youth a voice. She grew up navigating the child welfare system, moving between foster homes while maintaining the bond with her sister. As a biracial girl, she faced both systemic neglect and the challenges of colorism, bullying, and identity struggles, all of which fueled her understanding of how foster care can fail even with the best intentions. Powell earned a bachelor of science in psychology from Central Michigan University and an MBA, combining her lived experience with academic expertise to advocate for youth and influence systemic change. Through her education and personal journey, she has become a fierce voice for foster youth, highlighting the quiet failures of the system and the ways children are often forced to survive rather than thrive. Her writing and advocacy aim to ensure that children in care are heard, protected, and believed. Powell believes listening to foster youth is not a courtesy; it is essential to creating meaningful change.
