Maryanne Atkins

Maryanne Atkins is 23 years old from Seattle, Washington, and grew up in the foster care system. Both of Atkins’ parents were addicts, which landed Atkins in the hands of the state. Atkins spent a lot of time in the juvenile and adult jails, was homeless, and also used drugs and alcohol during that time. Currently, Atkins is finishing up cosmetology school after getting her high school diploma in King County jail. Atkins is involved in a committee that is focusing on the foster care-to-prison pipeline. It is Atkins’ dream to work with youth and adults who were impacted by the system.
